Common Gents: 10 Basics Behaviors For Refined Guys
Jan 25, 2017 05:54 PM Back
Gentlemen may prefer blondes…but LADIES prefer TRUE gentlemen.
The art of being refined seems to have gotten lost in the new millennium along with chivalry and manliness…but for some it’s serious business and yes, there is hope for those who want to learn how to charm and be charming.
1. A gentleman is quick to be appreciative…saying please and thank you frequently and earnestly.
2. A gentleman has mastered the art of communication and disagreement. He has also mastered the art of listening and the power of persuasion. He is able to speak his mind openly without being condescending or insulting and never make anyone, even those he disagrees with vehemently feel disparaged or disrespected.
3. While handkerchiefs may seem “passé”, a true and traditional gent has one handy…or at least a package of tissues to lend to a lady in time of need.
4. A true gentleman is chivalrous to all he comes across. He holds doors open not only for ladies but for anyone walking behind him.
5. A refined gent does not engage in vulgar humor especially jokes that poke fun at gender, ethnicity, race, and other delicate subjects.
6. Gentleman make things happen but in due time…and they have mastered the art of patience and waiting their turn whether it’s in conversation or in line. Gentlemen also know when to speak and when to keep quiet…after all timing IS everything.
7. A gentleman is always ready to give a hand to and offer his hand to others, especially in the form of a hearty handshake. He also knows that a handshake seals the deal and is as good as his word.
8. A real gentleman knows that real men are both rugged and refined and knows when to wear each of these hats. While he CAN be rough and tumble…he also takes great pride in his appearance and making sure when he steps out, he is stylin’ and stylish. He takes care of himself and his things…he keeps his shoes polished and un-scuffed (unless they are work shoes) and he keeps his fingernails clean.
9. Refined guys are able to keep an open mind….and they are willing to admit when they’ve made a mistake or when they are wrong. They are also willing to improve and change themselves and their (perhaps less than
exemplary)behavior.
10. Gentlemen…even the rough and rugged ones… debate…they don’t argue or fight
